Studies show that the number one factor for successful therapy outcome is the trust and safety that you feel with your therapist.
There are times in life where you hit a road-block - there may be anxiety that you were able to cope with until recently, or you are noticing repeating patterns that are hard to shake.
I work with trauma as well as relationship issues and the feelings that go along with them. My approach is practical but deep and I provide a safe, encouraging, and challenging place where you can begin to explore where you feel stuck and why.
In a nutshell - I believe that how we think and feel about ourselves and others creates patterns in our lives. We want to change the ones that are negative and repetitive. What we may have needed to survive in the past often doesn't help us to thrive in our current relationships. Research shows that just understanding the problem is not enough to create lasting change. That's why it's so frustrating when a pattern doesn't change through sheer force of will ! What helps get change going is getting at the emotional root of the problem while creating space for new and healthier habits.
When there is a strong sense of anxiety, depression, or panic, the work will be anchored in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Here, the focus is getting a handle on scary and often debilitating negative thoughts and feelings. Together, we will work in a grounded, hands-on way - with the intention of understanding and then turning around the thoughts and behaviors that tend to re-enforce anxiety, panic, and depression.
